For the 2020 Joe Dumphy Memorial Golf Scholarship (JDMGS) Fundraising Golf Tournament, we are changing things up and having a “touch-free” online auction in place of our traditional raffle to encourage COVID-19 precautions, including social distancing. We hope this format is just as successful as the traditional raffle and continues donor participation without the risks associated of an in-person raffle. Check out the auction frequently as auction donation items are continuing to come in! You do not need to be present to claim; however, all auction items won must be picked up within one week. Due to the costs associated with shipping, we will not be able to ship any items. Here is the link to our online auction: https://go.rallyup.com/jdmgs
We could tell you about this year’s amazing recipients…but we thought it would be best if they did! As they do every year, these students represent Joe’s future, and there is no better way to carry on Joe’s legacy than through these recipients. He is with us, and they are proof. Thank you all for your continued support and congratulations to these outstanding recipients!
JDMGS wants to say a huge thank you to those who participated or volunteered in this year’s golf tournament & to ALL our sponsors. This wouldn’t have been such a success without each and every one of you! In addition to all the fun we had, our net profit from this year alone was over $31,000! That’s $31,000 we can put back into the community for future scholarships. Thank you for making this possible & we hope to see you next year on September 12th, 2020!
All the individuals & businesses who have contributed are a big part of what makes this tournament such a success each year. Without them we would not have breakfast (provided by Chick-fil-a Dawsonville), lunch, games, prizes, or tee gifts! Additionally, our behind-the-scenes crew set a new record at 70+ volunteers and handled the tournament day operations, packed tee bags, and more! The UNG women’s soccer team also came out for the 3rd year in a row. Our tournament would not be able to run without all those involved and we thank you for making this so successful!

Here are this year’s Joe Dumphy Memorial Golf Scholarship recipients! JDMGS has awarded $13000 this year to students from North and Central Forsyth High School. From North Forsyth, Hunter Galbraith, Parker Vaughn, and Drew Nizialek received awards. Drew Nizialek will be attending Georgia Tech, Hunter Galbraith will be attending Middle Georgia State University, and Parker Vaughn will be attending The University of North Georgia. The Central High recipient was Jake Scharff. Jake Scharff is becoming a bulldog in the fall, he will be attending UGA. He is the first golf scholarship recipient from Central! This year’s candidates, as always, were of high quality and character. We look forward to seeing what these students achieve – as they have big dreams and amazing potential. We are so thankful for the support to be able to provide these students with funds to further their education and keep the memory of Joe alive.
Congratulations to these four young men for receiving this year’s scholarships! Also pictured is the first ever JDMGS scholarship winner, Drew Ridings, and a recipient of last year’s award, Jackson Boone.
With the conclusion of the most successful Joe Dumphy Memorial Golf Scholarship (JDMGS) tournament yet, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and share the success with you. The 4th annual fundraising golf tournament was held on Saturday September 8th, 2018 and generated $21,635 in net profits; a record for the event. We had 122 golfers in the field and over 60 volunteers at the tournament. Those numbers combined with the hole sponsorships and donations made for a spectacular day of golf, entertainment, and comradery. Joe was certainly smiling down on all of us!
In the last 3 years, the JDMGS, a 501(c) 3 charity, has provided $32,500 in scholarships to local college bound students that emulate Joe’s faith-based character! This incredible impact would not have been possible without your generosity and support in helping keep the memory of Joe alive through these scholarships. We would like to thank you again for your participation and support of the scholarship and value your continued support of the JDMGS mission.
Please mark your calendars with the date of next year’s tournament, Saturday, September 7, 2019 (the Saturday after Labor Day). Next year’s event will include the same great features including longest drive contest, chance at a Big Green Egg, breakfast, lunch and a Cadillac car lease for a hole-in-one on hole 17! Visit our webpage (joedumphygolf.org) and the Joe Dumphy Memorial Golf Scholarship Facebook page for additional information, updates and tournament and scholarship recipient pictures.
This year, because of your support, the JDMGS was privileged to award $17,500 in student scholarships to students who exemplified Joe’s positive attitude, ‘do good always’ character, work ethic (on and off the golf course), and Christian foundation. This was an especially special year as it would have been Joe’s senior year at North Forsyth High School. The 2018 JDMGS winners include: Jacob Hobbs, from West Forsyth High School, who will be attending the University of North Georgia; Thacher Neal, from Camden County High School, who will be attending & playing golf at Alabama State University; Kate Owens, from Lambert High School, who will be attending & playing golf at James Madison University; Griffin Orzech, from North Forsyth High School, who will be attending Kennesaw State University; Jackson Boone, also from North Forsyth High School, who will be attending the University of North Georgia; Cooper Roland, from Habersham High School, who will be attending & playing golf at Truett-McConnell University. In addition to the above scholarships, this year, we had a special donation with a specific request from the donor for an additional scholarship for Joe’s senior year. This one-time only scholarship was based strictly on character (no golf requirement) and awarded to two students whose amazing characters’ most stood out to the board as emulating the sweet Joe we all love: Noah Gurr (Forsyth Central High School) and Brayden Smith (North Forsyth High School). Both students will be attending The University of Georgia in the fall. We are excited to have awarded each of these amazing students with a well-deserved gift to help further their education. Thanks to your support, we look forward to seeing where their efforts take them in the future!

Congratulations to our 2017 Dawson & Forsyth scholarship winners: Alison Crenshaw ($5,000), Daniel Mathis ($2,000), Tatum Pruitt ($750), & John Litchenwalner ($500)! We couldn’t have asked for a more deserving group of young men & women, each representing different aspects of Joe’s character. Prayers for their collegiate futures as they take the next step.
This year is the second annual Joe Dumphy Memorial Golf Scholarship and in our two years, we have awarded over $15,000 in scholarships. Thank YOU for providing us with the opportunity to recognize outstanding students.
Thank you so much for all your support for our charity team who ran the 2016 Boston Marathon. Together, we raised over $9,000.00 for the scholarship, just in marathon donations!
Congratulations to the 2016 tournament winners, Wesley, Toby, Drew and Matt!
A heartfelt thank you to the hole sponsors, breakfast sponsor, anonymous donors, donations, players, volunteers, JDMGS board members and the Chestatee Golf Club for a successful JDMGS 2nd annual golf tournament. As with all JDMGS donations and fundraising, 100% of the proceeds go directly to local high school senior scholarship winners who emulate Joe’s spirit-filled heart and work ethic. It was a fun filled day on and off the course.
Congratulations Drew Ridings ($5,000), Adam Gracyalny, & Spencer Ball on their presentation of the Joe Dumphy Memorial Golf Scholarship. We started off our first year wonderfully by awarding incredible and hardworking students with the title of Joe’s character. Thank you all for your support & contribution to America’s youth & our son!
